Every time I start another one of the tortured-artist-poet-dead-rock and roll-star-dark-side-of-fame books i start wanting to let the aforementioned tortured artist archetype embody me. an existence of nicotine, coke and shitty food for the sake of art, suffering to transgress in some way that will become relevant to a jaded world of critique, which ordinarily, wouldn't be the thing one would embrace. and then rationality bitch slaps me, and cusses me out for wanting to damage myself in a world full of agony far worse than my mind can even conceive, why would i inflict it on myself? isn't that selfish? isn't that the dictionary definition of selfish?it's ridiculous. this is also applicable for the Last Night's Party hipster party lifestyle. seems fun. stakes are a little too high for me, though. can't work as a teacher with a record, can't get a job in this economy with a record, can't get a job in this economy period. we're seing the pack and the cataracs on new years. should be epic. i'm frustrated with the boy next door 40% of the time, 50% i'm apathetic, and 10% i lay my eyes on him and he gives me butterflies. which is frustrating, now that i've met the most amazing person i've ever had the fortune of knowing. and she feels the same way. and it's the most incredible feeling. we've worn out the words amazing and incredible and beautiful. the horse has been dead and we're jumping on it, we really need to figure out something else to say to each other. but we don't even need words. and that's what's perfect. no matter what happens, i know that she's one of the people that's going to change my life forever. she already has. and it's only been weeks. and nothing's official. which is a wee bit scary. i'm in limbo for this break, a free agent, technically, but i've got someone to consider now. i feel like it's time for my end of the year music list, but i don't really want to do it detailed. maybe i'll just rank them? yes! but in two categories - the ones i feel that i've listened to and know well enough to have a real feel about them, and the ones i don't. 1. Alanis Morissette - Flavors of Entanglement She has officially been redeemed for So Called Chaos. This is referring to the extended double disk, because i like a lot of the songs on that more than the regular album tracks ("Madness" and "Orchid" = <3). love it, love it, love it, it's strong, it's fresh. there are songs i skip, but hey. 2. Sia - Some People Have Real Problems very strong, all the way through 3. Hot Chip - Made In The Dark this has been the JAM. seriously. "Shake a Fist" is STILL epic and i've listened to it now many times? *checks last.fm* 4. Girl Talk - Feed the Animals this is an edit to the orignal post, i forgot Girl Talk. he outdid himself! Gregg, my MAN! there were so many moments when i was like OH NO HE DID NOT THIS IS TOO SICK! (i.e. "Still Here" with Flashing Lights AND NO Diggity! and Lovefool/Ready For the Floor! and there was something tight with Tell Me When To Go.) it's just awesome. it's gooood shit. 5. Uh Huh Her - Common Reaction I've had this the least amount of time, but the title track is fantastic and though i've only been through the album a few times, it's fabulous. and the ones that i haven't really listened to enough yet, or they have one/many incredible songs on them that make up for that fact 1. Coldplay - Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends I stand by the statement that "Viva La Vida" is the best song currently on mainstream radio. period. end of story. i love "Violet Hill" too. and a few songs later on the album, but i really feel this one will grow on me. A Rush Of Blood to the Head did. 2. Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree "A&E" is beautiful. it just is. it's lovely and beautiful. i'm still stuck on Supernature as far as Goldfrapp is concerned, but they KILLED at the Treasure Island Music Festival. 3. Marnie Stern - This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That It's like having a seizure! but a CD! Glorious! "Ruler"'s my favorite cause i heard it first. ha. and album title FTW!! 4. Rachael Yamagata - Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Hearts I've heard the whole thing once, i like it, it will grow. and album version of "Sunday Afternoon"! though the live version i have pwns. it's just raw and incredible. 5. Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue again, title track FOR THE WIN. i basically had it on repeat for a while. like a week. that's serious for me. 6. Madonna - Candy Shop Singles on this CD were the jam! i wasn't as crazy about the rest of the tracks, but 4 seriously banging singles is enough for this list. I had Dido on here for Safe Trip Home but i listened to it once and can't remember anything about it and i don't think it even had a single, so it doesn't get to rank. sorry dear. and CSS came out with an album but i don't own it. saw that at TSMF though. killed it! that whole festival was great. plus Hot Chip AND Justice?? held it DOWN. and that's that. |
